The One Year Anniversary of "The Economists' Statement on Carbon Dividends"

Today marks the one year anniversary of the Economists’ Statement on Carbon Dividendsthe largest statement of economists of all time!

The economics profession has never let out such a mighty roar, and we are grateful to the thousands of econ professors across the country who united together—in this historic groundswell of support—to light the way forward on climate solutions. While there are other policies to consider and important debates to be had, carbon dividends has emerged as a consensus strategy that can appeal to all sides. It is a cornerstone solution that has earned truly record-breaking support.

In the words of MIT economics professor Dr. Erik Brynjolfsson, “People say economists don't agree on anything, but here's one thing we do agree on: Carbon Dividends.” Or as the UChicago Booth Review summarized, carbon dividends is “perhaps the closest the economics profession has ever come to a consensus.”

Now that professors across the country have united around this concrete solution, the next step is for us students to seize the mantle of leadership and pave the path forward. Our professors have done their part, and now it’s time for us to do ours.

Especially given everything at stake for our generation, this is our moment to step-up and lead. We invite you to join us.
